OHS Communication, Participation & Consultation Policy

1. Policy Statement

Guidance: Sections 17-20 of the OHS Act establish the framework for worker representation and consultation through H&S Representatives and Committees. ISO 45001 (Clause 5.4) also heavily emphasizes this. This policy formalizes the company's commitment to these principles.

2. Our Commitments

• Effective Communication: To establish and maintain open channels for communicating OHS information, including policies, procedures, risks, and performance, to all employees and stakeholders.
• Worker Participation: To actively encourage and facilitate the participation of all employees in the OHS management system, including involvement in risk assessments, incident investigations, and the development of safety procedures.
• Consultation: To consult with employees and their elected Health and Safety Representatives on any new or changing matters that may affect their health and safety, before decisions are made.
• Health and Safety Committees: To establish and support H&S Committees as required by law, ensuring they are effective forums for management and employee consultation.
• Feedback Mechanisms: To provide accessible mechanisms for employees to report hazards, raise concerns, and make suggestions for safety improvements without fear of reprisal.
• Continual Improvement: To use the outputs of communication, participation, and consultation to continually improve our OHS management system and performance.

3. Roles & Responsibilities

• Top Management: Is responsible for promoting a culture that encourages open communication and consultation, and for providing the resources to support these processes.
• Managers and Supervisors: Are responsible for facilitating toolbox talks, consulting with their teams on OHS matters, and acting on feedback and reports from employees.
• Health and Safety Representatives: Act as the formal link between employees and management, representing their colleagues in H&S committee meetings and workplace inspections.
• All Employees: Are responsible for participating actively in safety discussions, reporting hazards and concerns, and contributing to a positive safety culture.

4. Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed at least every two years to ensure it remains effective and compliant with legal requirements.
